low self esteem

low self esteem

LSE or LSW low self esteem or low self worth is a slow poison which eats up your happiness. It’s very important to identify that you are suffering with low self esteem . Self esteem is your value in your own eyes and as the name suggests low self esteem shows that you don’t value yourself. There can be many reasons for low self esteem like suppressed childhood where the parents, close relatives and teachers were critical leading to a suppressed personality, it could be relationship abuse , nagging or a fault finding partner , physical or mental illness and sometimes it’s situational where the person has been exposed to failures one after other . What’s more important is to identify and change it to healthy self image but for that one needs to understand what are the signs of low self esteem or low self worth .

1) People with low self esteem find it difficult to take even the smallest of decisions, they are always scared of the consequences of their decisions and what will “people think about them.”

2)People with low self esteem hide their true self because they feel their true self is not good enough, they start pretending in order to fit in to the crowd, they don’t feel at ease because of this .

3) They feel that they always need to please people and need validation from them because their confidence is low, they need to hear from people that they are right .

4) Negative thoughts and negative self talk: people with low self esteem always feel powerless and hence use negative words to describe themselves. Their thoughts are filled with negativity and self doubt .

5) They are very conscious of what others think or feel about them and that’s why they are always noticing other people’s behaviour towards them to the extent that they fear people discussing them, they get uncomfortable in social gathering for the same reason .

6) They have a habit of comparing their lives with others , be it their looks, job or the lifestyle, they compare everything silently .

7) They believe there’s nothing good in them and that’s why don’t take the praise instead they try their best to convince the person who’s praising them that there’s nothing good in them and they don’t deserve to be praised .

8) Fear of judgement is paralysing for them and they are scared of being judged. What will people think about them, makes them curb their individuality.

9) Anxiety and panic attacks are very common because they are always stressed and anxious of how people look at them especially when they are working in a group.

10) Lastly they avoid any kind of competition because they are convinced that everyone is better than them and that they are the losers.

If you have a friend or a relative who exhibits all or some of the above traits , please be kind to them, love them , appreciate them, use positive words to uplift them. All they need is love , approval , appreciation and proper counseling to develop healthy self image. Try to show them their positive side , ask them to love themselves because absence of self love is in the root of this issue, make them realise the importance of living in the present moment so that they can let go of the past and can work upon them with new energy. Last but definitely not the least don’t judge them . Low self esteem slowly leads to depression, therefore we need to be aware of it .
